Part 3
The ending of this book was perfect. The fact that this book was Michael telling Hanna's story after repeating it in his mind over and over again was interesting. The development of Michael's character throughout the novel was also interesting. His relationship with Hanna, although many years ago, had a huge impact on the rest of his life. She changed him in a way that he will never be able to go back to normal. The emotional damage she caused on his life was permanent. I'm glad that he stopped blaming his parents for everything and released himself from the guilt he put on himself as well. None of this was his fault, it just happened. Hanna was a crude and brutal woman who took advantage of a young boy. He didn't know that what they were doing was bad and how it would affect his psyche and future. In my opinion, the third part was a little boring but it was my favorite part. I liked how he rediscovered his love for reading, even if he was reading to Hanna. It showed that not all passion in his life was gone. This book was enthralling and difficult to put down. The themes it discussed were mature and it made me think a lot about how easily manipulated people are and how one tiny thing can altar someone's life forever. I'm glad we got to read this book, even though it was sometimes disturbing and I hated Hanna's character.
